Graham Mendelowitz 
Managing Director

Graham Mendelowitz is a founding shareholder and Director of MKM since its establishment in 2004. 

In his capacity as Joint Managing Director he is responsible for working with the Board to establish the strategic direction of the business and directing the Leadership to implement that strategy. 

Prior to starting MKM, Graham’s previous 20 years’ experience was in financial services, primarily in funds management and private equity both in Australia and abroad. 

Graham has a Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting and Finance) from the University of Cape Town, is a qualified Chartered Management Accountant (UK), and is a member of the Australian Society of CPA’s and Financial Services Institute of Australia.

Mervyn Kark 
Managing Director

Mervyn Kark is a founding shareholder and Director of MKM since its establishment in 2004. 

In his capacity as Joint Managing Director he is responsible for working with the Board to establish the strategic direction of the business and directing the Leadership to implement that strategy. 

Prior to Joining MKM Mervyn worked in the pharmaceutical industry in South Africa owning a pharmaceutical wholesaler responsible for the supply and distribution of pharmaceuticals into the disenfranchised areas of southern Africa, operated that business until his emigration to Australia from South Africa 1999.

As part of a visa requirement owned, set up and operated an Automatic Teller machine business (ATM Solutions) which was purchased 2004 by Bank of Queensland as part of their foray from a regional to national bank.

Since 2004 to date has worked in the residential mortgage space under the MKM Banner.

Mervyn has a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of the Witwatersrand in South Africa.

Russell Nelms

Russell Nelms 
Chief Operating Officer

Russell Nelms joined MKM in 2021 as Chief Operating Officer and is responsible for operationalising the growth strategy and business plan of MKM. This includes working with the CEO’s and other executives in building and enhancing strategic partnerships with a particular focus on building trust and credibility through the quality of systems, processes and customer experience.

Russell has over 30 years’ experience in the areas of strategy, business transformation, project portfolio management, change management, organisation development, and quality/performance improvement.

Before joining MKM, Russell was Chief Transformation Officer at Bluestone. Prior to that, Russell held senior executive positions at a number of multinational financial institutions and has been instrumental in a number of significant change programs including St. George’s Business Bank Transformation Program (Sovereign), Westpac’s Transformation Program (merger of Westpac and St. George), AMP’s Enterprise Change Program (merger of AMP and AXA), UNSW’s 2025 Strategy and CBA’s Better Risk Outcome Program. 

Russell holds a bachelor’s degree from Appalachian State University in the United States.

Richard Balzer

Richard Balzer 
CFO and Treasurer 

Richard Balzer joined MKM in 2021 as Chief Financial Officer and is responsible for all funding and finance aspects of MKM’s operations. This includes working closely with the CEO’s and other executives to ensure the maintenance of trust and credibility in all MKM’s financial interactions.

Richard has had over 25 years of commercial leadership experience, across the financial services, consumer goods, retailing and manufacturing sectors. He is focused on assisting organisations to deliver both strategic and operational results, through the building of quality relationships to ensure the delivery of commercial rigour and financial discipline.

Prior to MKM, Richard has had significant financial services experience in senior roles at Pepper Group and Macquarie Bank. In addition, he has held senior executive positions at several multinational organisations including Coca Cola Amatil, Campbell Arnott’s and KPMG.

Richard has an MBA from Macquarie Graduate School of Management, is a graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors, holds a Bachelor of Commerce from University of New South Wales and is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountant in Australia and New Zealand.

Tracey Byrne

Tracey Byrne 
Head of Sales 

Tracey Byrne joined MKM in 2007 as the National Sales Manager. 

Tracey has over 20 years of specialist lending experience and leads the MKM Business Development Management (BDM) team.

Tracey has worked as a broker, team leader, customer relationship manager and a BDM. Tracey’s breadth of experience gives her unique insight and an ability to think outside the square to find a solution.

Adam Stevenson 
Head of Credit 

Adam Stevenson joined MKM in 2013 and is the Head of Credit with an overall responsibility for credit and origination functions. This includes working with the Managing Directors to consistently achieve and maintain operational objectives and benchmarks with respect to credit assessment and portfolio performance.

Adam has nearly 20 years’ experience in residential mortgage lending. He has been responsible for improvements in assessment quality standards, growing volumes, and increasing introducer/broker satisfaction.

Before joining MKM, Adam was an Underwriting Manager at Liberty Financial which included successfully managing high-performance teams in prime and specialised residential mortgage lending.

Adam holds a Bachelor of Commerce from Deakin University.

Steven Hindes

Steven Hindes 
General Counsel 

Steven Hindes joined MKM in 2007 as General Counsel. 

Steven has an extensive background in media, entertainment, and law. He is the General Counsel for MKM with over 30+ years of experience in top-tier law firms and corporate public entities.

As CEO for The Big Backyard, Steven combined his talents by leading the company’s legal and business affairs and executive producing a major live outdoor concert that aired on national TV. The firm’s clients included multinational and government clients in the travel, leisure, technology, hospitality, media, and telecommunications fields.

In 2004, Steven returned to legal practice as a partner with a mid-city commercial firm in Sydney, specialising in commercial litigation.

Steven holds a Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of Technology Sydney.
